Jennifer is one of several dogs who came to us as part of a breeder release wiith Isabel and Sarah3. She is 5 years old, 12" and 10#. She is HW and fecal negative, now UTD and spayed. Precious and pint-sized, Jennifer never lived as a companion dog before coming into the program. She has now been in the program a year, and while some of her progress has been amazing, some of her issues remain daunting.
An update from Jennifer's foster mom: We leave her crate open when we are in the den. She knows the word "outside" and streaks out of her crate and into the backyard when we open the door. She stops just long enough to do her business and then she's off running again. Her little legs move so fast she looks like a character from the old RoadRunner cartoon.
She is still extremely shy and unsure about her surroundings. Her crate is her safety zone, but when it is quiet, she will come cuddle on the couch. When we stay outside for a while, she will come up to me to see why the other shelties are hanging around this human. Outside and inside noises scare her, so she would probably prefer a quiet and patient home that will give her the time she needs to adjust to living in a loving home. She likes the company of other dogs, so having another dog (or two!) would help her adjust.
Jennifer is crate trained, although her housetraining is spotty. Please check back for further updates.

Zack is an OR due to family circumstances. He is 11 years old (DOB 3/17/00), is 16 inches, 32#, UTD, neutered, HW and fecal -. He gets along with the resident dogs, but doesn't interact much with them.
While in foster care, his foster parents noted that he wasn't moving comfortably and was protective of his right side. A trip to the vet revealed arthritis. With weight loss and meds, he is a much happier boy, and now zooms around with ease. He loves to go for walks, now that it doesn't hurt. He has some trust and fear issues which his foster parents are working on. Zack's foster mom has been working on basic obedience skills with him, and he now knows sit, down, come, sit in front, heel ... what a smart boy!
From his foster mom: Zack has a gorgeous, thick soft coat that is a pleasure to pet. He comes up for loving, sticking his head under my hand for caresses. He is a chow hound and would happily eat all that you care to give him - hence his weight problem. You can't give in to his big brown eyes which beg for more - but his food motivation has helped him learn all his new skills!
Zack needs a patient, (adult only) family, where he will learn that he will be safe, loved and not hurt.
Zack went to the Sheltie Nationals in Tucson, AZ, where he competed in Rally Novice, qualifying with a 92 out of 100! You can see him with his ribbon in the photo. His new "registered" name is Arctic Tri N 2B Good of HSS. Way To Go, Zack! And many thanks to Eileen, his foster mom, who has truly turned his life around!

Portia is from a local shelter. She is ~7-8 years old, 15 inches, 29 pounds, is now UTD. She is HW/fecal - and had previously been spayed.
An update from Portia’s foster mom: Portia originally came into the program with ear and skin infections. It was determined that she has flea and food allergies. Medications have cleared up her ears and her once thin coat is now getting soft and fuller. Regular monthly flea medication seems to have solved her flea allergy irritation. Her food allergy issues seem to have subsided as well with a change to a hypoallergenic food (which is the same price range as any other premium dog food).

Portia appears to be deaf and would do best in a home with other dogs. She can detect when our other dogs are barking and picks up on events from their behaviors. We often forget she can’t hear because she never misses a greeting at the door when we come home or a mealtime! Portia is a great dog and looks forward to finding her forever home to give her the love she deserves.
Please check back for further updates.
Ready for Adoption! Albert

Albert came to us from a local shelter, after having been found in the middle of a street in Katy. He is 12+ years old, 11", 13#, neutered, HW and fecal negative, now UTD.
Albert suffers from significant hair loss, which is suggestive of a number of medical conditions. In working him up to diagnose what might be wrong, we discovered he was significantly anemic, which needed to be resolved before we could proceed further. We have been working for several months to reverse this condition so that we might then address his other potential issues. None of his issues mar his outlook on life, which is a winning combination of bright little star and grumpy old man - yes, both in one tiny package! Everyone who meets Albert falls immediately in love, and no one can believe he is actually his estimated age - most believe him to be a darling puppy.
From his foster mom: Albert is a sweet dog, who loves getting his 'head pats' and 'back rubs'. He is very easygoing and will follow his humans wherever they go. He would probably do best in a all adult household. He gets along with the two resident dogs, as he has a very laid back personality.
Albert's medical care is ongoing, and expensive. Please help us help Albert to live out his life in comfort and health.
Ready for Adoption! Cadence (Katy)

Cadence (nicknamed Katy by her foster mom) is an OR for personal reasons. She is 5 years old, 14-15 inches, 24 pounds, UTD, spayed, HW/fecal -.
An update from Cadence's foster mom: Cadence (Katy) came to us a very shy, fearful girl. She wouldn't walk on the leash and ignored the other dogs. She has accepted Jake the cat right away. She is housetrained and crate trained; in fact her crate is her safety zone. At first we had to retrieve her from the crate and carry her to get her to go potty outside. Once outside she would take a few steps and then start bucking and jumping on the leash. Eventually she would take enough steps to go potty, then she'd walk back inside in fits and starts. She is afraid of every noise, person or thing that she doesn't know, which is a lot. In the past week, Katy has started taking a few more steps on the leash and at times will walk normally around the back yard. Then she'll see or hear something that spooks her and she'll stop still. I just wait a few seconds or change direction and then she'll start walking again. Yesterday she started taking treats very gently from my hand, lining up with the other dogs for their morning treat. Today for the first time she came into the kitchen (after several stops and starts) to eat her breakfast with me sitting near her. She has learned the sounds of food bowls clinking and being filled, so will start circling the kitchen. Before that she would only eat if we left the room. She will allow me to place her on the couch in the evenings to watch TV and not run off, which for her is a really big deal. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night. Some days we make a little progress, sometimes we go backwards. She will run to her safety places in the house if we let her. I can see that she is trying to come out of her shell, but it will take a long time, a lot of patience and the right family to help her become the happy, well-socialized Sheltie that she deserves to become.
