2011 was an amazing year for Houston Sheltie Sanctuary.
We rescued our 1000th Sheltie, an event we could hardly stop to acknowledge as we then went on to help 50 more. This could not have happened without our volunteers, supporters and donors over the past 13 years who have contributed toward this amazing accomplishment - those of you who have loved, medicated, bathed, walked, trained and nurtured over 1051 dogs into health and new homes - as well as those who have helped with home visits, adoption events, publicity and fundraising. We look forward to continuing our work in 2012!

Program Description
Welcome to Houston Sheltie Sanctuary, Inc. We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, serving the Greater Houston and Southeast Texas areas. Now into our fourteenth year, we are the oldest Sheltie Rescue Program in Houston, the 2nd oldest in the State after DFW, and one of the largest and most successful breed rescue programs in the nation. We do not have a shelter location but are a rescue network of over fifty Sheltie lovers and volunteers who have pooled our resources, energies, time, and homes to rescue Shelties. We offer a safety net to Shelties who need our services, including providing rescue to Shelties in shelters, assistance to finders of lost dogs, and support to owners who find they can no longer keep their dogs. We provide the dogs in our program with appropriate veterinary care and behavioral rehabilitation before eventually rehoming them into loving forever homes, or, for those too old or too ill to be rehomed, caring for them in foster homes for the remainder of their lifetimes. It is a mission about which we are passionate. We hope you find our website informative, and if you share our passion and goals, we hope that you will contact us.
 Pet Stuff Resale will reward shelter and rescue group dog adopters with 10.00 off any crate 35.00 or above. This applies to both new and used crates and is good anytime before to 3 days after the adoption. All used crates are disinfected. Pet Stuff Resale can be found most weekends in front of the Citizens for Animal Protection Thrift Store on I-10 near Dairy Ashford. The number one killer of our rescued Shelties is Heartworm Disease, yet it is preventable through a monthly pill costing about $10.00. Failure to give monthly preventative is abuse. We require all veterinary records showing vaccinations given and heartworm preventative purchased for all resident dogs. If heartworm preventative is purchased on line, we require copies of those receipts.
