Without our foster homes, we can not save these Shelties. Houston Sheltie Sanctuary pays for all medical bills; foster homes provide the love and food. All of our foster homes are full, so please consider fostering. We need foster homes for the puppies, other Shelties in our program and incoming Shelties. If you are interested, please fill out the Foster Home Application on our website.
Welcome to Houston Sheltie Sanctuary, Inc. We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, serving the Greater Houston and Southeast Texas areas. Now into our fifteenth year, we are the oldest Sheltie Rescue Program in Houston, the 2nd oldest in the State after DFW, and one of the largest and most successful breed rescue programs in the nation.
2014 was an amazing year for Houston Sheltie Sanctuary. By year end, the total number of Shelties rescued totaled 1235. This could not have happened without our volunteers, supporters and donors over the past 16 years who have contributed toward this amazing accomplishment. Those of you who have loved, medicated, bathed, walked, trained and nurtured over 1164 dogs into health and new homes - as well as those who have helped with home visits, adoption events, publicity and fundraising. We look forward to continuing our work in 2015!

We need volunteers indoors and outdoors.
We need at least 2 to 3 people indoors at all times wrapping gifts. Ideally we would have more than that, so that people can rotate and are not stuck wrapping the whole time.
We also need at least 2 to 3 people outdoors with the dogs. Most of the dogs enjoy it but it can be a long day, especially for the older ones. People seem to enjoy seeing the dogs dressed up in their holiday costumes.
If you are thinking of breeding your adorable dog, please read "Just One Litter."
The number one killer of our rescued Shelties is Heartworm Disease, yet it is preventable through a monthly pill costing about $10.00. Failure to give monthly preventative is abuse. We require all veterinary records showing vaccinations given and heartworm preventative purchased for all resident dogs. If heartworm preventative is purchased on line, we require copies of those receipts.
