Roger

New

Roger is a 2.5 year old male (DOB 7/9/23) relinquished to HSS due to the health issues of his previous owner.  He was not socialized well outside of his home, and it took him a while to acclimate to a new environment and people, especially tossing in the necessity of neutering and back dew claw removal.  He is house trained and he is NOT scared of thunderstorms.  He responds promptly to a recall when called by name.

Roger is now fully vetted and recovered. After a slow start, Roger has learned to trust his foster family, especially his Auntie.  He initially retreated from contact and sought out his crate for comfort.  What originally looked like lack of leash skills turned into his preference to walk on the right instead of in heel position.  He has started to initiate play with our dogs, but our dogs being older, are not very interested.  He also wants to play with us humans, but we are also older, and can’t run long with a young dog.  Roger does play fetch a bit.  He will retrieve a ball and bring it almost back for a second or third toss.

While he gets along well with our dogs, his preference is to cuddle up with his human (once he knows you).  He will stay beside my chair, or lean into or climb into my lap if we are on the futon or window seat.

It took several weeks for him to acclimate to his foster home.  However, during a recent five day stay with a vacation foster family, Roger was walking well on leash and cozying up to the couple and even slept in bed with them.

Roger is an oversized sheltie and weighs 40 lbs.  That just means there is more of him to love.  While he has the energy of a young dog, he is also content to be a couch potato.
